La MLS pierde $40 millones y el prestigio del FC Barcelona

La recesión económica mundial tardó en afectar al deporte profesional. El mejor ejemplo ha sido los New York Yankees, el legendario equipo de beisbol gastó y sigue gastando muchos millones, demasiados dirian muchos, especialmente en medio de un crisis financiera.

Mientras que el beisbol de los Estados Unidos continua su camino sin ningún tropiezo financiero, por lo menos hasta ahora, el fútbol profesional estadounidense no ha tenido tanta fortuna. La Major League Soccer ya sufrió un serio revés con la retirada del FC Barcelona de su lista de nuevos equipos de expansión para la temporada 2010.

Citando "adversidades del mercado," el FC Barcelona acaba de declarar que su intención de lanzar un equipo afiliado a la MLS en el 2010 ha muerto. De esa manera tambien murío el gran sueño que la afición inmigrante mayormente Latina de Miami venia contemplando desde hace ya un buen tiempo.

Con el retiro del FC Barcelona la MLS perdió los $40 millones que el equipo azulgrana estaba dispuesto a pagar para convertirse en socio de la Liga. Más allá de los millones de dolares, la MLS tambien perdió el enorme prestigio de poder asociarace formalmente con uno de los mejores clubes del mundo.

FC Barcelona continuará con su acuerdo de promoción con la MLS, pero el sueño de lanzar un equipo que compita en la liga estadounidense ha muerto, por lo menos por ahora.

Cuando la economia mejore, quizas este cometido se pueda llegar a realizar y quizas el otro gran equipo español, el Real Madrid, tambien se anime a lanzar su propio afiliado en el circuito de la MLS, una liga con mucho potencial y promesa a largo plazo. Pero para nosotros los que no tenemos tanta paciencia, pareciera que este gran potencial de la MLS nunca se llega a realizar.

Quizas hay que aprender a ser paciente. Como dice el sabio y chistozo dicho, con mucha tranquilidad, paciencia y bocados pequeñitos, una hormiga al fin pudo terminar de comerse a un elefante.

¡Paciencia Miamenses! Un equipo filial del FC Barcelona llegará a la Ciudad del Sol algún dia no muy lejano.

De hecho, los optimistas anticipan que, tarde o temprano, muchos prestigiosos equipos europeos y su sudamericanos se meterán de lleno a la MLS para aprovechar el mercado y al fin realizar la eterna promesa de convertir a la MLS en una de las mejores ligas del planeta. ¿A mi me parece que este escenario es factible.
