Amigo Cheché...: Después de las 26 Series Mundiales ganadas por los Yankees (13 perdidas), el mayor número es de los Cardenales, 10-7, y siguen, Atléticos 9-5 (en Philadelphia 5-3 y en Oakland 4-2); Medias Rojas 7-4, Dodgers, 6-12 (en Brooklyn 1-8 y en Los Angeles 5-4); Piratas, 5-2, y Gigantes 5-12 (en Nueva York 5-9 y en San Francisco 0-3)... Y me imagino que cuando escribirte "base por bolas" querías referirte más bien a "base por golpeado". Bueno, sí, ha habido varios que han buscado el pelotazo para embasarse. Uno de los más hábiles en esa especialidad hasta ahora ha sido el caraqueño César Tovar.
Cornelio Quintana, de Cancún, pregunta...: "¿Es cierto que hay un pelotero de apellido Séptimo sin ser Papa ni Rey?"
Amigo Nelio...: Sí. Su nombre es Leyson Séptimo, de 24 años, nativo de Santo Domingo. Fue outfielder en las menores de los Diamondbacks durante cuatro años. Pero después de la campaña de 2007 fue convertido en lanzador (es zurdo), porque tiene un brazo muy potente. Me dijo un scout que lo consideran con inmenso futuro.
Gustavo Urdaneta, de Maracaibo, pregunta...: "¿Existen sanciones, como multas, para los umpires cuyas equivocaciones afecten el resultado del juego, y quién las aplica?"
Amigo Tavo...: Los umpires son supervisados en cada juego y en todos los juegos por personal de la oficina del comisionado. Pero no les imponen multas. Ahora, si se les comprueba que son realmente incapaces, pueden perder su trabajo, como lo han perdido unos cuantos.
Gilberto Méndez, de Maracay, dice...: "He leído lo publicado por Sergio Machado en fanáticos.com y por Ud. en su columna, acerca de los hijos abandonados por el shortstop venezolano Alcides Escobar. Lamentable. ¿No hay en las Grandes Ligas personal que oriente a los prospectos latinoamericanos en este sentido?"
Amigo Gil...: Más que esa orientación es un problema de familia, de educación hogareña, de formación. Después de adulto, es difícil cambiar los hábitos. Cuando la persona se deja arrastrar por el instinto meramente animal, se cae en lo peor. Lo único que puede mejorar en algo al indivíduo es una sanción severa, por ejemplo de suficientes años de prisión, multas, obligaciones paternales.
