Shea Stadium es ya solo un grato recuerdo en la historia del beisbol. Y Yankee Stadium es desmantelado de manera inmisericorde. Pero hay otros estadios de Grandes Ligas abandonados y tan erectos comos esos iletrados soldados que pululan por ahí.

Es que los Yankees están cobrando entre 500 dólares y dos mil 625 dólares por juego en cada una de mil 895 sillas de 25 secciones alrededor del infield. Y los demás sitios menos costosos, no son nada económicos tampoco.

LA PREGUNTA DE LA SEMANA.- Mañana viernes 24 hará 160 años de la primera aparición en el beisbol de algo que vemos en todos los juegos. ¿Recuerdas qué es?.
LA RESPUESTA.- El 24 de abril de 1849, los Knickerbocker, equipo de Nueva York que había inaugurado las primeras Reglas tres años antes, en 1846, presentó ante la sociedad del beisbol los primeros uniformes que se usaron en la historia. Los pantalones eran azules y de lana, camisas blancas de franela mangas largas, y gorras de paja.
Lo primero que se echa de menos en el nuevo Yankee Stadium es la atmósfera, la majestad, el señorío de la vieja casa (1923-2008). Nada de eso tiene la lujosa nueva residencia de los Yankees.
Lo primero que se echa de menos en Citi Field, es el maravilloso coro de "¡Let´s Go Mets!... ¡Let´s Go Mets!", acompañado de los ingeniosos carteles y bambalinas caseros que enarbolaba la gente en las tribunas de Shea Stadium. No, nada de eso hay en la nueva residencia de los Mets.
